Book Organisation

When it comes to my bookshelf there is very little order to it ! I have often tried to organise it into chronological, alphabetical or genre based order however it never seems to last. As soon as I finish a book I dump it on the bookshelf and pick up my next read. Saying that however I do like to have my books in size order but only for aesthetics.

Many people find that having an organised bookshelf allows them to see exactly all they books they have read and are easy to find on these shelf’s and I agree however I find that the time spent organising could be spend reading.

However if you do wish to organise your bookshelf there are different ways you could do this;

  1. Separate your paperbacks and hardbacks
  2. In order of when you read them
  3. In alphabetical order
  4. By colour
  5. By genre or subject
  6. Based on how much you liked the book
  7. By author
  8. By height and size
  9. Seperate fiction and nonfiction
  10. Sperate your to be read books

These are all useful and one day my bookshelf will be completely organised !

How to get out of a reading slump

Here are some tips to get out of a reading slump !

1. Push through and force yourself to read

I have done this so many times and I always get into the book after I have read a bit more.

2. Read a book that you know you love

If you read a book that is your favourite or know you like you are much more likely to want to read.

3. Reorganize your book collection

You might come across a book that you forgot you had or would like to read

4. Try to read a novella

Try to read a short story or novella to get yourself reading again before reading a huge novel.

5. Set yourself goals

Set targets of what you want to read in a time frame which may help you to continue reading them through the slump

These are just a few and often don’t work for everyone however it may just help you !

I hope you enjoyed this post.

Hardback vs Paperback

When it comes to purchasing books you can often have the choice between hardback or paperback and the question is, what do I choose?

Library-books-4

I personally love the look of hardback books on my bookshelf however I feel due to their size and bulkiness they can often be hard to read when sitting on a couch or lying in bed. They are also a lot harder to transport sue to their size. IT can take up your whole bag depending and can weigh it down. Saying this they are more durable and have more of a collectable aspect. The do tend to last a lot longer than paperback books. A lot of times as part of a series one of the books (normally first or last) often comes as a hardback and it creates a special feeling to the series. Hardback books are also a great choice for a gift as it feels more worthy and special (especially if it’s a good book!)

Paperback books are the one I would choose due to their size and weight difference. I feel that they are much more portable and easier to read when lying down or in a small space. I also think they are the best choice for when you are travelling or going on holiday due the weight and size. Much easier to sunbathe with a paperback! Paperback books are also cheaper as they don’t have the think bound front cover as well as a dust sleeve. This can also help you decide as it depends on your budget.

IT also helps to make a decision based upon how you want your bookshelf to look. If you have all paperbacks a hardback may look out of place and vice versa. The front covers also may differ between the two which could have a big impact on your decision. If a series have a set cover style that change with the hardback could be a factor that also affects your decision.

Overall, I would say both are good choices but it depends on the circumstances; budget, style or gift?
